Mother Daughter Brunch - August 2011
The 3rd annual fundraising Brunch was held in Melbourne on August 13th 2011. This was an amazing event with more than 165 people in attendance. The One By One Foundation raised over $12,000 for the home! Thank you so much to the One By One Foundation for their continued support!
Ujamaa Children's Trust - UK
In May 2011, long time supporter of Ujamaa Children's Home, Imy Fisher created a Trust in the UK to support the home. With the help of Becky Day and Skye Balasingham the Ujamaa Children's Trust UK is now able to take tax deductable donations from UK residents. They have already had a number of fundraising events, including a fantastic Day on the Green Pub Crawl which raised over 1300 GBP! Special thanks also go to Lucy Watson for her sponsored half marathon which raised money for the home as well. Thanks to all our wonderful supporters in the UK - keep the love coming!

Ally and Halima start school
Our twins, Ally & Halima started school in September 2010 and they couldn't be happier. Every single day they are up and ready to go and would even go on the weekends if they could! All the children from Ujamaa Children's Home are now attending school full time and we are excited to see them learn and grow.
A New Home!
In August 2010 we moved into a new home, because we were unable to continue to rent our previous home. Thanks to the amazing help of volunteers from Ujamaa Hostel, we were able to get the kids settled into their new home in one day. The new home is bigger and better than before, filled with light and laughter. It's a wonderful place for the children to be.
However, to avoid this situation in the future, we are striving to raise funds to buy land and build a permanent home for the kids.

May 2010 - One family reunion and two new additions to the Home!!
It has been a big month for the Ujamaa Children's Home!
One of the children who was living at our home (Emmanuel) was offered to be sponsored by another organisation which was already sponsoring his brother. When Emmanuel came to live at the home, we couldn't take his brother in because he has specific health care needs that we are unable to provide. However, the organisation wanted to keep the brothers together and has agreed to take in Emmanuel as well. While we were sad to see him leave, we're so happy that he was able to reunite with his brother and that they will be able to grow up together! We have heard from him since he left and he is happy and healthy and enjoying being with his little brother!
This week we took in Ali & Halima who are 4yr old twins. Their mother died of AIDS a couple of years ago and their father is suffering badly from AIDS and is unable to work, buy food or care for them. Ali and Halima were malnourished, had no clothes and were always hungry. Through Ujamaa Hostel (www.ujamaahostel.com) we heard of this situation and their father asked us if we would be able to care for his children, sadly he is very ill and will not recover, but the smile on his face and the sense of relief when he saw that his children will be cared for after he is gone was simply priceless.
Ali and Halima are playful, cheeky and always smiling! They are settling into their new family well and are looking forward to starting school soon.
We have also contacted a local AIDS support group to help get their father as much help as possible and now that he only has himself to take care of we hope that his quality of life will improve. He is also welcome to come and visit Ali and Halima and see how they are growing and progressing in the home.

February 2010 - Moving into our new home!
We are very happy to announce that Gloria our house Mama and our kids have moved into their new home in Arusha. It's a fantastic large 4 bedroom home with lots of space for the kids to play, do homework and cook meals together. We also welcome the addition of Rose our new Nanny/Cleaner to the home. She is a happy, vibrant and kind young woman who we know will be a wonderful help to the kids.
Mama Gloria buying lots of supplies for the new house!
