House Manager / Mama
Gloria Daniel has worked as a Nanny and House Manager for many years. She has an incredible love for children and values each child for their individuality. She is a kind, generous and strong Masai woman who has taken care of her own mother and nephews for many years as there is no one else to care for them. On top of this she dedicates her life to helping and guiding the children of Ujamaa Children's Home so that they can live happy and healthy lives filled with love. She gives of herself whole-heartedly and is a wonderful role model and support for the children at the home. Gloria does everything, from deciding what to eat for dinner, helping the kids with their homework, managing the household, taking care of the children if they are sick and playing games with the kids. In fact sometimes Gloria has more fun than they do!
Support Staff
We currently have 2 helpers at the home, Rose and Deborah. They have both worked with children for many years and do a wonderful job of keeping our house clean and organised for the kids. They help Mama Gloria in any way they can and enjoy spending time with the kids playing, helping with their school work and cooking. Rose is a happy and kind-hearted woman who always greets you with a smile. Deborah is shy and sweet. We also have a range of other support staff including a Guard and gardener who all help to improve the lives of the kids living at Ujamaa Children's Home.
The Children
We currently have 5 beautiful children living at the Ujamaa Children's home; Sabina (14yrs), Irene (11yrs), Kelvin (9yrs) and Ally & Halima (5yrs - Twins). We happily provide them with a safe, loving home to live in, clothing, medical support, education and life skills. We are so proud of our children and we welcome any support that you can give us to help them grow up to be happy and skilled adults.
Sabina is a quiet and kind hearted girl. Her favourite colour is blue and when she grows up she would like to be a policewoman.
Irene always has a smile on her face, especially when her favourite food, chips, is on the menu! One day Irene hopes to be a lawyer.
Kelvin is an adventurous little boy and he loves to know how things work. He wins the hearts of all our volunteers with his kind nature and big smile! One day Kelvin wants to be the President of Tanzania!!
Ally and Halima are twins. In a cruel twist of fate, Ally has HIV, but Halima does not. Halima is quiet and sweet, but she runs the show and keeps Ally in line. Ally is louder, loves attention and will do just about anything to get someone to push him on the swing! Ally and Halima started school in September 2010. They were beyond excited and every day they are up and dressed ready to go. It took a lot of convincing from Mama Gloria to stop them going into school on weekends as well!
