Why do we need your help?
In Tanzania children are particularly vulnerable in society where:
21% of people live below the poverty line (less than US$1.90 a day) which equates to 12.5 million people
30% of girls are forcibly married before they are 18 years old
25% of girls aged 15-19yrs have already had a child or are pregnant
30% of school aged children are not in school
30% of children aged 5-17yrs are engaged in child labour which equates to 4.2 million children
These factors mean that many children in Tanzania do not get the start in life that enables them to break the cycle of poverty and become self-sufficient adults.
One child at a time we can change the world! We believe in slow steady progression to ensure long term success and that even the smallest voice can be heard and make a difference. As the Dalai Lama says: "If you believe you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito"

Supporter Testimonial "I first met Carley in 2010 when I traveled to Arusha as a teaching artist during my studies at The Juilliard School. Over the five years that followed, I would return to Arusha to teach the same arts empowerment workshop each summer. From the moment I met Carley and learned about her work at Ujamaa, I was blown away by her commitment to the kids and the community. Visits to the Children's Home revealed that Ujamaa is truly a family, where each child is loved and cared for with the utmost attention to their individual needs. The laughter, smiles, excitement, and affection that each child displays are testament to the quality of Ujamaa's care; not to mention that the kids are given access to health care and education that would otherwise be denied them. Unfortunately, in today's world, we can't just donate to charities without doing some research into their ethics and practices. So often, a seemingly benevolent relief organisation turns out to be less than charitable in its use of funds. In supporting Ujamaa, I have a direct, personal link to Anjelina and can see my donation in action through emails, photos, letters, and Facebook updates. I know with full confidence that every dollar I send goes right to Anjelina and her Ujamaa brothers and sisters, and that Carley remains committed to giving them the best possible shot at success. These kids are the single greatest investment in Tanzania's future, and I fully believe that they will grow up to change their world for the better. I love helping in some small way to give the that chance." Chelsea, USA
