At the heart of what we do are our children. Our home is for them and to give them the life that all kids deserve. With 16 kids living together the house is always full of fun and laughter. They have a strong sense of family and we know that even when they grow up this will always be the place they call home. We are so proud of our children and we welcome any support that you can give us to help them grow up to be happy and skilled adults.
All of our children go to Private English Medium Schools where they learn English and we can ensure they get the best education to prepare them for adulthood. We make sure they go to the best schools in Arusha with a wide range of subjects and opportunities. They speak both English and Swahili at home.We also intend to support the children well into adulthood, so if they choose tertiary education or vocational training they will have a support system until they are able to fully care for themselves.
We plan to care for up to 20 kids in our new home and one day we would love to build another home to support even more kids! We have a range of goals for The Ujamaa Children's Home, but are prepared to take each step at a time to ensure that our progress is sustainable in the long term. Our kids are a life long commitment and we intend to provide the best possible care to all the children we take in.
All of our children are orphaned either through the death of their parent/s or by abandonment. Some have relatives who visit but are unable to care for them full time.
We could not do anything without the incredibly dedicated staff who care for our children every single day. Our House Manager Fatuma is kind, generous and works hard to make sure the home runs smoothly. She helps manage expenses and the needs for the home. She is also a single mother of a gorgeous little boy! Living on site full time are Deborah and Latifa. Deborah is our Night Manager and together they are such loving and caring women who provide the kids with everything they need at home. Sarafina also comes to the house each day to help and look after the kids. They have all worked with children for many years and do a wonderful job of keeping our house clean and organised. They assist in any way they can and enjoy spending time with the kids playing, helping with their school work and cooking. They are gentle and generous with the children. These women are the lifeblood of what we do and they care for the kids as if they were their own.
We also have two wonderful Guards/Groundskeepers Jonah and Mathayo. They are kind and generous and we are grateful for the security and support they provide the home and our kids.
The home runs under the guidance of our amazing Project Manager, Carley Andrews, who coordinates and manages everything on the ground.
